Track 14: Funky Mississippi by Rufus Thomas

Soulful Sundays

Rufus Thomas was a blues and funk singer from Memphis who despite never gaining widespread renown still left a major imprint on the Memphis soul scene of the 1960s and 70s.  There’s a lighthearted approach to his lyrics that reflect his parallel career as a comedian, but the music is pure down-n-dirty soul (and well crafted at that).
